The Team of Early Years Practitioners

You will always receive a warm welcome to La Maternelle. Practitioners develop warm, caring, friendly & professional relationships with children & their families.
All practitioners are carefully recruited for their dedication to providing the best care possible for children. Practitioners are highly valued & supported to develop professionally in order to improve the outcomes for children & to ensure the outstanding standards of La Maternelle are maintained. Our strict recruitment procedures ensure that all staff are suitably qualified & hold an enhanced criminal record bureau disclosure.

Parent quotes from our annual questionnaire

• “Everyone is friendly & helpful. Both our children have formed good relationships with staff easily & I have always felt confident that staff look after children exceptionally well.”
• “I like the continuity of care – the same people looking after my child with no great turnover of staff. The staff smile & take an interest in my child and the whole atmosphere is of staff that care.”
• “Nothing seems too much trouble. The staff are always smiling & welcoming, and most importantly put the children first.”
• “The environment is child focused with plenty of everyday items for the children to explore rather than being an environment designed to be visually appealing to adults- some of the other nurseries we looked at had clearly missed the point and it was one of the things as parents we liked about La Maternelle”
• “Abbie has developed fantastically attending La Maternelle -  she is very independent.  She has been able to express herself in a caring environment”
• “I particularly like the high standard to which you know about every child and how you cater for individual needs”

The Indoor Environment

The rooms are designed to be warm, welcoming & stimulating to ensure that children feel comfortable & at home.  We encourage children to take ownership of their environment & develop their independence with well balanced adult support. This is done through engaging children to make decisions about their club & listening to their interests, views & opinions. This in turn makes children feel valued and raises self esteem & confidence. The resources & activities promote inclusion, diversity & equal opportunities.

The Outdoor Environments

“The best classroom and richest cupboard is roofed only by the sky” Margaret McMillan (1919)

“We need to develop runner beans not couch potatoes”

Children have access to a secure & stimulating outdoor environment. The area is designed to mirror the indoor environment as much as possible so children can take part in similar experiences outside, for example, a quiet reading area, mark making area, sand play, role play, and water together with opportunities for team games skipping, tennis, hopscotch, den making and free and found resources to explore i.e. guttering and crates.  In addition the school field and play areas offer children the space and freedom to explore in a safe and secure environment where they can be physically active and energetic.

Parent Comment

“It is wonderful that Jessica has so many opportunities to play outside in the fresh air.  The club is her favourite place to be!”

All sessions are structured in order to offer the children an exciting and stimulating leisure time with us, including both quiet and active periods.  The children are encouraged to share their ideas with the staff either through their children’s council or by means of a suggestion box.

These activities include arts and crafts, painting, mark making, construction toys, pool, snooker, table tennis, table football, role play, dressing up area, DVD player, cookery, computer, messy area, messy play, lego, animals, den making, net area, hamma beads, playdough and much more!  Multi cultural aspects are promoted through all activities.

A child friendly self evaluation board supports the children to reflect on their time in the club and also provides the staff team with a clear vision of which activities and resources the children are most and least choosing and enjoying.  This evidence is then used to help us assess what is working well and not so well and adapt our planning and our activities accordingly.
Parent Comments

“La Maternelle is like Manchester United - Simply the best!”

“Nick loves it! Especially good to have the male employees - lots of football!”

“Jonny has a social life and an extended family here. He learns new skills and good values - respect of others, team spirit and helpfulness. I don’t know where I’d be without you - thank you!”

“My peace of mind has been how Sian responds to being at club. She is pleased and looks forward to coming. Upon entering the hall, all the children in care are happy and engaged in one of the many exciting activities. All staff are very involved with assisting the children.”

We have a positive child friendly behaviour policy in place which is used by all staff to ensure a fair consistent but firm approach and more importantly supports the children to have a clear understanding of the club rules and the consequences of inappropriate behaviour.
Promoting the themes of The Early Years Foundation Stage
The setting follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework 2008 (EYFS).
We work to promote the themes of the Early Years Foundation Stage to a high standard.
These are-
• A Unique Child
• An Enabling Environment
• Parental Partnership
• Learning & Development
Further details on the EYFS can be found at
Keyworker & Buddy System

Each child has a keyworker ( a member of staff) who has a special responsibility for him/her during his/her time at La Maternelle ensuring there is good communication between the club and home on a daily basis.  We really welcome any information about your children which can help us to support their personal interests. For the reception children, in line with the EYFS, your child’s keyworker will keep track of his/her interests and development in a Learning Journey file.  This is available for you to access at all times and is on occasions shared with the reception teacher to enhance the children’s leisure time with us.
Parental Partnership

We understand that you know your child/children better than anyone else. In order to improve outcomes for the children it is essential that we strive to build trusting & professional relationships with the families of the children in our care.  You can trust that prior to your child starting La Maternelle we will gain as much information as possible to ensure their key worker can provide continuity between club & their home life.

Questionnaires are sent out regularly in order for us to continue to develop our out of school care clubs.

Parent comment from annual questionnaire

“My daughter loves going to La Maternelle. She is disappointed when it is not a “club day”. I think that speaks volumes about the care provided. I would recommend La Maternelle to anyone who wants their child to spend their early years in a safe, caring, exciting & fun environment”
Partnership with School

We have a strong partnership with school communicating with staff frequently to ensure a smooth transition for the children between class and club.  We work closely with all Head Teachers to ensure consistency for the children.

“The club offers a wide range of activities, so there is something to suit everyone. The children always seem to be enjoying themselves. Staff are very approachable and demonstrate a high level of interaction and care.”

Mrs M Andrews (Former Headteacher of Stapeley Broad Lane Primary)

A healthy breakfast and light tea are provided.  A packed lunch with an ice pack enclosed must be brought to holiday sessions.
